Their happy nature is not only seen onstage alone, have a chance to meet them off stage and they can be usually seen clowning around or laughing at each other. Despite thier carefree nature, however, this band is as serious as can get when it comes to their music.

With a number of original compositions that hint of their songwriting ability and an original revival of The Dawn's "Enveloped Ideas" that more than does justice to the original, the band has shown that they are for real.

Jeepney Joyride is a band that is serious in having fun, which means playing their music. They consider their music ska-core or punk-ska. Their unfluences vary from White Zombie & The Red Hot Chili Pepper to classical music. Music and Jamming at Xaymaca Bar

when reggae music and reggae jamming is what you need, no other place could top Xaymaca bar at Timog Quezon City. this bar serves as melting pot of all reggae fanatics in the country. as a reggae lover myself, i also plan on visiting this place. my peers have been talking nonstop about this killer place. all the best reggae bands in the country are given the chance to perform here.. among its long list talented reggae bands who regularly perform here include brownman revival, reggae mistress, peacepipe, and a lot more..

that's all i know about this place since i have not yet felt the reggae vibe of this place.. soon.. i would take time to visit the famous Xaymaca. Luckily, my friend bhadet was able to hangout at Xaymaca during her trip to Manila.. i just have to drool as i look at her pictures..

The roots of dreadlocks can be trailed to the Rastafarians of Jamaica, and further, to Indian sages and yogis, but they have never been more popular or widespread than they are today. It is said that dreadlocks originated with these eastern holy men. Possessing nothing, renouncing the world and possessions (not even a comb) they eschewed even personal grooming, hence the inevitable dreadlocks. Dreadlocks get their name from Jamaican tradition. Those with 'natty' locks in their hair were to be dreaded, or feared. When slavery was abolished in the US, it was no longer legal to enslave African Americans. But good ol' America found a loop hole, no one said anything about not enslaving native peoples of India.

Different native people have worn them from time to time, which is not odd as someone who neither cuts or combs his/her hair will sooner or later get dreadlocks. The reason that not all prehistoric men and women wore dreadlocks is because they combed & cut their hair. We can't know who were the first to observe the phenomenon of locks, because they seem to have been present when each culture in question entered writing (or other depicting). The first attestation in writing, is in the Veda scriptures of India, whose earliest pieces are dated to 1800 B.C (but are most probably much older in origin due to a long oral tradition). The word in question is jaTa, cited in Monier-Williams' Sanskrit-English dictionary to mean: "wearing twisted locks of hair" and as feminine (jaTaa) "the hair twisted together (as worn by ascetics, Shiva, and persons in mourning)". Contemporary Hindi dictionary translates it nicely as "matted hair".

Bob Marley

Obviously, Bob Marley is the dreadlock-adorned rock star of all time. His dreads remain unmatched, his music remains unsurpassed. He is a legend. One thing that is way, way cool is that you see the progress and growth of his dreads via his record covers. His first major label album Catch a Fire features a Marley with some baby dreads, and from there they grow and mature like a mane of pure soul power. His life is a unique blessing that is truly a gift from God to the world.

P.O.D rock. They are everything a great band should be. And more than that, their spiritual nature is a blessing. Their faith is strong, and their message stronger. They make faith in God cool, which is the hardest thing to do in this world (yet the most appropriate thing in the Universe!). Musically, they rock so hard AND surprised everyone with a huge break-through album.

Faith No More

One of the greatest drummers of all time is Mike Bordin of Faith No More. This dreaded drummer is a powerful creative madman. His knotty dreadlocks down to his drum stool, and this man pounds his drum set with fierceness. Mike's dreads are almost too long to really whip around while he plays, but they drape down his back like a lion's mane.

Zack from Rage. What can I say, a revolutionary, an artist, a man for all seasons. Sometimes the whole political angle outshines the music of Rage Against the Machine, but behold, Zack is one of the raddest MCs. His lyrics, his delivery.

Lenny Kravitz

Another phat set of dreadlocks are, or were, Lenny Kravitz's. His dreadlocks look fly with all the vintage guitars and styles he sports.

Incubus

One for the ladies, Brandon Boyd of Incubus. Brandon has since cut his locks, like Lenny, but he had his dreadlocks hayday.

Korn. The super popular group of the sad 'n' angry generation.

Reggae and Rastafarianism defined

Rastafarians firmly adhere to the fact that Ras Tafari would unite the black people and deliver them to Ethiopia, the Promised Land. Also included in the Rastafarian ideology is the sacredness of dreadlocks, which should never be cut. Rastafarianism in Jamaica is all about faith.

Red, yellow (sometimes gold), green.. this is the Rastafarian color. Red symbolizes blood; red for the land of Africa and gold for abundance. Another distinguished value of Rasta is that meat is never part of their meal. while meat is strictly prohibited in the Rasta culture, marijuana on the other hand is legal.

It is also stated in the Rastafarian Bible that “the more I accept herb is the more I accept Rastafari. I mean it’s not something that harms, its something that you crave but it’s like an essence.”

Bob Marley is the most widely known Rasta we have today. because of his great music which is reggae, Rastafarian is introduced around the globe.

Aside from the famous reggae beat, Bob Marley and The Wailers is also famous for its critical and political lyrics. Bob Marley’s music is like a widespread disease, whose lyrics talks about peace, love and faith.

But because of the reggae bandwagon, Rastafarian has become a fashion to most. Even the reggae theme is entirely different. Reggae is known before as purely socio-political, but now reggae songs became love songs hence became more commercialized. And one cliché with reggae, they automatically associate reggae with ganja smoking. Partly it was the media’s fault, it was blown out of proportion. Although no one don’t deny the herb is practiced by Rastas worldwide.

the Science of Selling yourself Short is performed by the ska band Less than Jake.. this song is mostly appreciated of teenagers who, as they say are still on the "confused" stage when they want to try everything that is regarded as "cool" in their generation.. though i am no longer identified as a teenager, i can still very relate to this song because of its great depiction of being "human"

Reggae is a genre that grew out of several other musical styles, including both traditional Jamaican (Afro-Caribbean) music, including ska and mento, and American R&B. In the early days of radio, stations were super-high-powered, and several stations from Florida and New Orleans were powerful enough to reach Jamaica. Reggae only came about as a distinct genre in the 1960s.

Reggae is characterized by a heavy backbeated rhythm, meaning the emphasis of the beat is on, for example, beats 2 and 4, when in 4/4 time. This backbeat is characteristic of all African-based musics and is not found in traditional European or Asian music. Reggae drummers also emphasize the third beat when in 4/4 time with a kick to the bass drum.

Reggae was a precursor not just to the modern Jamaican style of Dub, but to American Ska (think No Doubt, Sublime, Reel Big Fish), Jambands (Donna the Buffalo, The String Cheese Incident) and British reggae-based bands (UB40). Also often ignored is that reggae is the predecessor to Hip-Hop and Rap music, and a very clear line can be drawn between the two.

Bob Marley was reggae's best-known international ambassador. From his early days in a Rocksteady band to his later years as a Rastafari convert and political activist, Bob Marley planted himself deeply into the hearts of reggae fans throughout the world. Some people consider Marley to be exclusively responsible for the popularity of reggae worldwide, but other artists, such as Jimmy Cliff and Peter Tosh, did help the movement.
